Learning Components. What are they?

Diffendoofer Day Book πŸ“š

In class we were asked several questions after having read Dr. Sues’s book Diffendoofer Day. These questions really made me think about what it is like being both a teacher and a student. As it had my parse apart what I personally thought of what it means to think as a verb, but, also what it means as a Teacher who is trying to get her children/students minds to not only grow, but question their lives, knowledge base, authorities, and many other part of their lives. So that they won’t become walking clones of one another who don’t Question or Think on what they are being told on a daily if not hourly bases.

Five good reasons to use a Science πŸ§ͺ notebook πŸ““ reflections
We were asked to read an article about why are Science notebooks good teaching tools and how do they help a teacher out in their own personal classrooms. I found the article to be very interesting, in a way because of how it opens up dialogue and discourse between the reader and the author about how it seems for the longest time Science Teachers didn’t have a good way to be fully hands on and helping with MTSS and differential learning process. I agree with all 5 points that the author makes about how a notebook in the classroom can help students learn science.
I do wish how ever that they would have also touched upon the fact that using these methods will also help students not only feel ownership of their work, but also that they are like Researchers in the any single scientific discipline/community. These thoughts are coming from my years as a Paleo-Oceanographer/GeoChemist. I loved the times in class when I felt most like an actual Scientist. One last thing that I also wished they would have touched on is how notebooks can be used in-correctly, specially for MTSS if the Teacher requiring use of notebooks doesn’t regularly check them for the correct content and connections. So, that students can skillfully and gracefully pass through your classroom on their way to being the Bright Minds of our future, no matter what your background is!
Private Universe πŸ›Έ

It was really interesting to hear and see that many of the simplified explanations for why we have a change in seasonality and also moon phase stick around long into our adult years. I also found it cool and intriguing in the way that the students were able to unpack their prior knowledge like a puzzle and re-piece it back together with the correct content information over, their preconceived notions/ideas on how the seasons changed. Seeing the students begin to scaffold new informational pieces to their pre-made structure was fascinating as each child did it slightly differently.
